One of the best fine dining places in town. I went for dinner on Saturday night and had the best experience ever. Like other reviewers have mentioned, this place gets an older crowd, and the ambient noise level is really low. That makes this place perfect for date night or special occasion dinners. After being seated we were served complimentary sweet potato fries dusted with the sugar they put on benigets. It tasted like standard chips. For dinner we got the crabmeat mushrooms and baked oysters for appetizers. The mushrooms were delicious and came in a lemon flavored sauce which I mopped up with the bread. The oysters were served in ramekins and there were three different flavors...all delicious! For entree I got the seafood pasta and K got the Hallelujah Crab. The pasta was loaded with delicious fresh seafood and minimal sauce. It tasted really really good. The HCrab of course was great to look at and eat! I saw at least two tables around us that had ordered the same crab dish....I guess it's their most popular fare. We couldn't leave without tasting their bread pudding, so we split a slice because we were sooo full. Yum yum yum is all I can say. And the service...five stars!

We went here for a business dinner. Because another review, I ordered the grapefruit sparkler, I loved it! The service was good, and like I said it was a business dinner, about 25 people, so we had 2 wait staff. I had the salad and it was good, the pork chop, I think it could have used more seasoning. The dessert I chose was the cheesecake, I liked the strawberry/raspberries on top. All in all, I have had better food for less price. I rate the good good, but not great.
Great dinner after flying in from SF for the Super Bowl. Enjoyed the pomegranate martini and honey bourbon in the bar before dinner. Wife really loved the mushroom appetizer and filet; the soft shelled crab was perfection. Enjoyed swapping stories about the 49ers and San Francisco with our server Maryland Thompson who was great.

The Gulf Fish Meunière was outstanding.....moist, melt in your mouth with a perfect light sauce. My favorite dish at the table. Everything we had was delicious. Nice ambiance as well.

For special occasions or any reason is the tag line on their website, for some people any reason could be "its a Wednesday night" for me the reason to go here has to be a VERY special occasion as dinner here could be quite costly. Cost is a major obstacle for many people when choosing where to eat, so let's get this out of the way, this place is expensive, possibly the most expensive restaurant in Baton Rouge, but the food is amazing and you won't find anything comparable without driving down to New Orleans. Juban's has a very unassuming entrance, at the end of a strip mall surrounded by shops and major four land roads on every side. Walking in through the front gate you leave the massive parking lot and strip mall behind and enter a place with a very carefully crafted atmosphere. The decor inside is fitting white tablecloths, professionally dressed waiters, nice chairs and couches all fit together very well inside the restaurant. The food at Juban's is great; a modern flair on Cajun classics. I started off with the oysters and the frog legs, the oysters because they are always amazing, and the frog legs because my parents were in from out of town and I wanted them to eat frog legs just for the sake of saying they had them. For the main course, the soft shell crab was the clear winner at our table, the crab came out looking like he was ready to fight whoever had just dropped him in the deep fryer, he was stuffed to the top with an amazing stuffing that really made the dish a spectacular treat. To accompany their delicious food Juban's has an extensive wine list with some amazing wine and champagne to accompany the menu selections which vary seasonally. Our waiter informed us that the wine list had previously won several awards from Wine Spectator and other national restaurant magazines. On top of this amazing wine list, Juban's has a very extensive list of cocktails and an amazingly diverse list of scotches. A special shout out needs to go to their amazing desert selection and the quality of their after dinner espresso. The pecan pie we sampled was proclaimed to be the "best I have ever had" by more than one person in our party and is something you should not miss trying for any reason. It came out of the kitchen hot and caramelized overflowing with pecans and a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. The pecan pie was by far the best desert at the table, it is worth saving room specifically so you can try this delicious desert. The service at Juban's is Top notch, unlike many other restaurants in the area that hire college students who are usually waiting tables as a way to pay for school, Juban's has a decidedly professional wait staff and it shows. The level of service you get from someone who has years of experience and isn't just doing a job to "get beer money" while they go to school is far and above the level of service you get from the good looking 19 and 20 year old college girls who typically serve at other restaurants around town. I thoroughly enjoyed going to Juban's and I would definitely go back if I wasn't currently a poor grad student making less than what the federal government defines as the poverty line. Juban's does try to combat the perceptions of cost by highlighting a price fix menu option each night, but who really wants to go and have everyone at the table order the same thing? And while the price fix is a good option for saving money, who is really going to go and not get some drinks or a bottle of wine to go with dinner?

This is usually a place that is as "fine dining" as Baton Rouge gets, but do not eat their buffets. It will sound tempting on the menu, but it was highly disappointing. The courses are spread out throughout the rooms in the restaurant and the chafing dishes aren't labeled. I never figured out if I got to taste the grillades or not. To be fair, their regular menu is excellent, if pricey.

How the hell does this only have 5 reviews? This place is great!!! Old school bordello-ish, with a classy feeling, the walls in the dining room look like leather and the warm colors ad to the experience of enjoyment. Great service and amazing food. Don't let the strip mall fool you. There are many amazing restaurants in strip malls. I had the crab cakes and alligator bites as an appetizer. They were good but there are many crab cakes in the world. For dinner I had the Hallelujah Crab which is a soft shelled crab stuffed with seafood and a very nice sauce (creolais I believe). It was excellent... The wine list was impressive though there were some levels I thought were a bit high. Dessert I had a pecan pie (which was more of a tart) ala mode, light crust good filling - I was in heaven. My dining partner suggested the bread pudding, but that will have to wait for next time.

Just had the best dinner at Juban's. They helped me stay on my diet but cooked a delicious fish with crab topping - no sauces! Lots of veggies! Of course, Roger had the pork chop with mashed potatoes, and yummy desert!! They quality and service is always impecable!

When the kitchen and wait staff is ON Juban's is hard to beat. The problem is that it is wildly inconsistent. I would have quit going to any other restaurant at which I have had such poor food and service but I have gone there for many, many, years and have fond memories of it's glory days. The inconsistency is unforgivable in a place that is so expensive and capable of greatness.

Proposed to my beautiful wife at Juban's 8/9/08. Now I'm a Cali boi, but bayou bangel by proxy since I used to live in good 'ol Baton Rouge. This is a must visit for any food lover who comes to Baton Rouge (or even New Orleans, it's worth the drive). The soft shell crab, the gumbo, and even the bread pudding (and I hate bread pudding, but actually love it at Juban's). Be prepared to eat, this aint no California Cuisine with those small portions of food. This is Lousiana! Large portions with plenty of sauce and flava!!!

Holy crap man, I think I died and went to southern food heaven. Yeah, I'm just a tourist, but I married a local so that makes me a local by proxy so I've earned the right to comment on the food. And might I repeat, HOLY CRAP WAS THAT A GOOD DINNER! The gumbo was fab, and the duck with crab and sweet potato stuffed quail.... it haunts my dreams. Eat here!! Pecan pie to die for too!

I have to say, this is definitely one of the best restaurants I have eaten at here in Louisiana. If not, the best. So far at least. If you go, there are two drinks you have to order. The honeycomb bourbon and the basil mintini. Both are so delicious! mmmm.... I'm drooling just thinking about them. As for food, everything I ate was delicious. My boyfriend and I got two appetizers and a salad to share and left satisfied, so the portions are decent too. The appetizer special was a crawfish napoleon with fried green tomatoes. It was fabulous! And we also had the scallop appetizer, and that was amazing. My one complaint on that one was that I wanted more!! The salad I had was less than special, wouldn't order it again, but it wasn't bad. Had some citrus in it and yummy dressing. Cant wait to go back and try the Two Birds entree. There was also a new dessert on the menu, homemade sweet potato ice-cream with abita root beer. I ordered it but was very disappointed to find out they didn't have it yet. Look forward to trying that as well. Overall- I recommend it 100%

I've got to say the location threw me....a strip mall?? Once inside, you forget about it though. I had the Shrimp Aubergine which was a pasta with jumbo gulf shrimp, a chive cream reduction sauce and "flash-fried" eggplant. Now, I love eggplant of any kind but this was something truly special! The sauce and shrimp in this dish were amazing as well....Also, would recommend the "Bayou Pearls"....sort of like crabcakes but less bread and scrumptious. I absolutely love this restaurant, and can't wait to return....Thank goodness it looks like I need to return to Baton Rouge soon.

The outside is nothing special being it is in a strip mall next to some typical strip mall businesses. When you walk inside you can see the effort they took to make the place look unique and they succeed greatly giving it charm and ambiance as soon as you walk in the doors. We were seated almost immediately in the private dining room for our party of 11. I came here to try some local ingredients and dishes. Juban's certainly didn't disappoint with that aspect. I was just underwhelmed with the flavors and innovation in dishes. This could very well be considered a steak house since everything is served a la cart and many of the proteins are just various cuts of beef steak. I ordered the frog legs for an appetizer and the two birds for an entree. The frog legs came out fried with a buffalo wing type sauce and some sliced celery and another veggie I can't recall. This basically was like buffalo chicken wings. Nothing different and everything familiar. The two bird entree was a quail stuffed with crab meat and sweet potato puree and the other side was duck served in a dark syrupy molasses-like sauce. There was also asparagus served much to my chagrin because my malbec didn't pair well with the veggie but certainly with the meats. The duck was at a proper temperature and was delicious but I wasn't keen of the sauce. It was too sweet and one noted even when the savory meat was paired with it. The quail was delicious as well, but the crab meat was masked by the sweetness of the sweet potato puree. Overall the dish didn't have much contrast and typically a teasing of the senses is what makes dishes memorable (for me). I tried all of my fellow diners dishes and must recommend to get a steak. They were amazing. For dessert we had the creme brulee, pecan pie and the bread pudding. The creme brulee is some of the best I've had. The pecan pie and bread pudding were just ok. This is a special occasion place and it has great ambiance for a romantic night. I would recommend their perfectly cooked steaks and avoid the frog legs unless you like yours in buffalo wing sauce.

After going back here a second time, I have to revise my rating down from 5 stars to 4. This time around I was with a group, and we were all only moderately impressed with our dishes. I got the beef tenderloin medallions and while they were good quality and well seasoned, they weren't really worth the price. I was also irked that the second drink I ordered was incorrect (I ordered a French 75, which should have been gin, lemon juice and champagne in a flute, but instead I received some tall glass over ice, that didn't seem to have any champagne in it at all). Overall I'm still a fan of Juban's - they have some great food and drinks - but after a repeat visit I can't give it quite so glowing of a review.

Stayed in Baton Rouge for one night last week as part of our mardis gras/louisana honeymoon. We decided Jubans would be a perfect "romantic" choice outside all the craziness of NOLA. It was located in a strip mall, which was the only strange thing about it. It didn't match the decor or crowd on the inside. I loved the high ceilings and red walls. We had a center table, which I usually hate, but the tables were far enough away that you didn't feel you needed to whisper. there was also a bar area in another room and I believe seating in there but I only saw it to and from the ladies room. Our waiter was amazing, calling my husband by our last name, or sir, very classy. He knew his food, FOR SURE, (my husband is a chef; this kid really knew his stuff). I wish I remembered his name. He had personally tried (or at least acted as if he had) everything we asked about and more. We got two glasses of champagne to start and the charcuterie which was FANTASTIC. alligator sausage, head cheese, homemade jam and local cheeses... it was really the best I've seen. We had bread too but I don't remember it as anything special. My husband also got a bowl of the gumbo which he said was perfect but I didn't have any because basically all we did this whole trip was eat. We each got the Filet Juban which were both cooked to our order perfectly, and the creamed spinach and asparagus as sides, which I could barely eat because everything was so filling and I wanted to save room for their creme brulee, which was also classicly good with little berries and an edible flower on the side. My husband had a scotch and water, which he said was not the best hed ever had, but we were trying to stay local, and they did have quite a few local choices on the menu although there beef was corn, not grass, fed and from "the midwest". everything here was amazing, perfect, albeit forgetable. I assume if you want a safe, good, expensive choice, this is where you would go.

Fresh seafood perfectly prepared. The best in Baton Rouge. Yummy. Soft shell crabs. Broiled oysters. Turtle soup, Gumbo. Bread pudding. our favorites Don't let the strip retail location fool you. First Class. Save the drive to NOLA if you're in Baton Rouge. Three Course lunch special's a delicious money saver. Juban's is a special treat and worth it.

I have moved out from Baton Rouge for a long time, but I still dream about their hallelujah crab, gambo and creme brulee... hmmmmm... Whenever I had visitors outside of Louisiana, I brought them here too. Now I think about it, the price is not as expensive as y

Unbelievable. Possibly the best meal of my life. The Gumbo is fabulous, and the Two Birds entree was spot-on. My only disappointment was that Pecan Pie was not available. (apparently they only get a limited amount per week.). This place is worth every penny.

I ordered the Hallejuah Soft Shell crab, and i can say it was the worst crap I have ever had in a restaurant. The Mojitos were great! The bar girls - 2 of them, were sticking their straws in the drink to 'taste't them which I thought was pretty gross. One of them was actually drinking a margarita while mixing drinks, which she offered a sip to the young boy who came out to serve food. I felt like I was in some sort of a 'joke' restaurant! The salad was good, the sweet potato chips were very tasty. While they served this first, I found the sweet potato chips an odd thing to eat as an appetizer since they were sweet. The stuffed Crab was unfortunate...they just didn't cook it enough and it was doughy and cold on the inside. They at least were good enough to remove the charge from the bill. Would I eat there again? No, since when I got back home, had violent diarrhea! yeach! oh, and it was my birthday..what a drag!

Went here on my anniversary and was please do chose this place. Everything was yummy, crab cake appetizer, hallelujah crab, juban filet, and of course the wine. I got a glass of the moscato and it was good. Definitely better to just buy a bottle of two people are drinking. They have a great wine selection. I will probably try the Pinot next time. I also really wanted to try the oysters but I'm waiting until they are in season this fall. I've heard it's beautiful in the fall if you sit by the fireplace it's a nice and cozy feel. I loved the service and the bow ties the staff wear. I will definitely be back.

Last night my husband and I went to Juban's for date night. We had an absolutely fantastic time from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. We started in the bar. He got their Honey Bourbon and loved it. I had a French martini. It was so delicious that I followed it with another. Their bread is crispy French bread served with whipped butter. Delectable! We ordered the oyster carousel as an appetizer. Amazing. The Maxwell is a bit spicy, but enjoyable. The Bienville is heavy on spinach and flavor. The jewel was the Rockafellar. Save some of that French bread to dip in the remaining sauce! For entree he had the Hallelujah crab and I had steak frite. Both were delicious. Pecan pie and ice cream for dessert and we were stuffed!

Everything here was fantastic!!! I got the four course dinner special they're doing this month and wow.... I was blown away. I always expect to leave a little hungry after nice restaurants if the portions are small but the portions were huge and perfect here. I'd definitely recommend the honey-soaked bourbon to drink, which they make in house. And the poisson meunière is one of the best pieces of fish I've ever had. On top of all this the servers are completely on point, literally eyeing down when you need something from afar and coming over to get it for you. Our server was friendly too and not stuffy at all. Come here and splurge for a night - absolutely worth it!

Hallelujah! Hallelujah I say to the Hallelujah Crab. My first time ever having soft shell crab and it was a very nice experience. This flash fried decorative dish is an attention getter when it arrives and a mouth pleaser while eating. The one thing they could use is a little more Creolaise sauce. There was enough for decoration and covering the body of the crab, but I wanted to dip the extremities in it as well. We lead intoth meal with the oyster appetizer and I have fallen in love with the Maxwell oyster. A special type of spicy that doesn't offend the tongue at all. I would have chosen six of these alone for the plate. Overall I'm Jubilant over Juban's. When travel plans allow, I will make another stop.

I called to make a reservation on a Wednesday for Saturday night, they were super nice and helpful. We made our reservation for 10 people and had a lovely experience. They start everyone off with these homemade sweet potato chips and they are to die for! Just about everyone ordered something different and everyone loved the food and service. I did not like my shrimp and grits but seeing how everyone else loved everything I can not complain.

A group of us came for Baton Rouge Restaurant Week and after hearing good reviews, I had high expectations for my first visit here. Unfortunately, I was disappointed, both by the poorly seasoned food and the cold service. The enticing "Gulf Fish Boulette" turned out to be over-salted balls of stuffing (and a trace amount of black drum) over a linguini that was dressed with a salty brown liquid that tasted like they just poured some diluted soy sauce over the noodles. The bread pudding was average and I only finished it because I tossed half of my entree. I was not impressed by our waitress who rarely smiled and brusque in our interactions.
Top restaurant in Baton Rouge. Excellent Creole food, great service, atmosphere, reasonable prices. Very consistent.

I honestly don't understand how people can give this place good reviews. When I went, we had a reservation and we still had to wait over an hour to even sit down. There wasn't even anywhere for the people in line to sit as we waited. We all had to stand. Then our server lost our ticket and we had to wait for two hours after we sat down to get our food. The only vegetarian friendly item on the menu is a salad. There are probably less than ten items on the menu, so if you're a picky eater or have a strict diet, steer clear of this place.

Juban's is a good restaurant -- good food and good service. However, it is not great. Expect to leave happy and satisfied, but don't expect to be wowed. It has several separate rooms each with a distinct personality -- a formal dining room that is a bit too stuffy for my taste, an airier room with the full bar, and several side rooms -- including the Wine Room which is a fun place to dine with a group of people. There are larger, private rooms for dining for larger parties and Juban's is probably the best choice among the nicer Baton Rouge restaurants for event and small party dining. I enjoy just going and hanging out at the bar which has some of the most knowledgeable bartenders in town. Plus the bar's location gives you a view of most of the happenings in the restaurant. Check the hours as they are a little odd -- lunch every weekday except Monday and only open for brunch on Sundays (closed by 3:00pm). The recommended dress is business casual, but they do not enforce a dress code (pretty much impossible for any restaurant in Baton Rouge since folks here are not a formal bunch). Check their specials as they are usually the best thing to order over what is on the menu. And in my opinion, the Hallelujah Crab, which is probably their most famous dish, is the worst thing on the menu -- go for something else.

I made a reservation for my boyfriend's bday. The lady who I talked on the phone said the dessert is on the house because thats what they do when theres a birthday. I wouldnt mind paying for the dessert since the bread pudding is only 7bux but the fact that the server had no idea on that deal it is just a major turn off. The server ended up charging us for the dessert it was not worth arguing about. Funny that she even greeted my bf happy birthday, didnt even put decoration on the dessert that said happy bday and still charge for the dessert. Mind you it was not even good. We ordered the fried frog legs, oysters, chicken liver salad, two birds, ribeye with soft shell crab and the bread pudding. Everything was just ok except the chicken liver salad which was the best chicken liver salad ever! Please update your menu on the website. There were alot of things there that is not on your current menu. If I had known the foie gras was not on the menu anymore I would have gone to a different restaurant!

This is one of my favorite places in town. I should have posted a review before now. Perhaps I was just waiting for one more stellar visit. My friend and I went today! Excellent service and excellent food! Let me start by saying that David, our waiter, and Angela, at the bar, helped make this a memorable lunch. The grapefruit sparkler, $7, is Angela's special creation and it is terrific! She was kind enough to show me how it is made. Thank you! We started with the above cocktail and ordered the Boursin (sp?) cheese and crab soup and a wedge salad, sans bacon. The soup was outstanding and the salad fresh and crisp. The home made blue cheese dressing was spot on. David, our waiter, accommodated my friend's special request for an oyster platter with their great fries, as this was currently not on the menu. Don't you love a waiter who makes recommendations and knows the nuance of when to visit and talk? I ordered the Juban burger with Havarti cheese and it did not disappoint. Perfectly cooked to medium well and seasoned lightly, it boasted fabulous caramelized onions which were soft and sweet. The bun had a slightly sweet flavor which was the perfect balance. Thank for another wonderful visit. Who knows? Maybe one day I'll save room for dessert as there are several appealing items on that menu! I Love the ambiance as well, great for a date night, casual lunch or that special occasion!

I've definitely had better food and service and the strip mall location really goes against my grain. This is probably among the nicest looking strip mall locations I've been too and they have done a nice job making this location have some very nice architectural features with a bit of charm and flair but there are definitely cracks in the illusion. If you pay attention to structural details you can certainly see that ultimately this is still just a very gentrified strip mall space akin to a plain Jane that cakes on a bunch of make up to smooth out the rough edges. The food is average to slightly above average but nothing really blows my mind here and they do acceptable seafood dishes with the softshell crab being one of the better dishes. The menu is more on the concise spectrum and the dessert menu didn't offer much that really inspired me either. The service was less than expected at a restaurant of this age and reputation but is mostly adequate while being occasionally on the slower edge of tolerable. For Baton Rouge this is probably one of the better fine dining options but this place wouldn't compete very well in New Orleans. Essentially I just find myself wishing I were at Commander's Palace or Arnaud's instead of being here but generally when I'm in Baton Rouge I'm in the same mindset as Ignatius Reilly and can't wait to escape back to New Orleans.

One of the best restaurants in Baton Rouge. From the hosts to the bartenders, you are dealing with pros who make no excuses. My duck was perfect. And they actually know what my signature Rob Roy is and how to make one of the best I ever had. My only quibble is the strip mall location. This place deserves its own gorgeous courtyard. Nota bene: Will make your wallet cry.

Maxim's rated this place with the best gumbo in '09? Ummm.. I guess that really depends on your taste. If you want quality ingredients (andouille sausage and chicken) with a delicate, refined taste, you'll like this gumbo. On the other hand, if you're accustomed to the everyman's gumbo that has more of a kick or with seafood, you'll be sorely disappointed with Juban's version since they hold back (I guess they tone it down so you can appreciate their sausage). Comparing all the gumbo I've had against Juban's, I kept imagining judging Budweiser vs. the "Would you like any Grey Poupon" commercials... Juban's epitomizes the latter: antiquated/refined, not as entertaining. It could've been so much better, but they restrain their gumbo. At least the main course was fresh. I ordered Seared Yellowtail, and as I had a hankering for crab, I requested crabmeat on top. Service was a bit slow for a weekday afternoon, but when it arrived, I received a really thick cut, served with veggies which includes naturally purple cauliflower. Really flavorful, crunchy enough to contrast against the fish, but soft enough to use it to mop up the savory ponzu sauce and eat together with your main course. 4* Ambiance: 4* Dine in the courtyard for a casual upscale feel. Although it was covered, there was alot of sunlight for a nice feel. For a late lunch, this place is monopolized by an older crowd. (besides the waitstaff, it seemed everyone had grey/white hair). I had a peek into the fine dining room, and it looked impressive.

I have to say I did not really think Baton Rouge had excellent restaurants... until I went to Juban's. I am not rich..and I eat out way too much. One day I will just stay home and go out to eat once a month at places like....welll...Juban's. But for now, I tried the pris fixe on Monday night. I bumped into the place without looking at it and saw the sign advertising the meal. It happened to be Monday and Parrain's had a long wait. I had been craving seafood. When I left I saw Juban"s. I am so glad I allowed the special to convince me to give up my fish. I walked in and there was a lady with a lovely smile to greet me. I mentioned I was interested in the special. She said she thought they were out of it ...my heart sank...second strike.....one more and I would be going to bed hungry. I was getting so tired. She went to the kitchen to see what she could do for me. She returned with that same lovely smile and offered to substitute with a ribeye. I gladly accepted. She seated me in the atrium which was fine with me. I was closer to the kitchen and it is an attractive, open area in which you are so far apart from the other tables that you feel like you are the only one there. My waiter came up and was courteous but gave me the impression he was a bit hurried. My impression was later confirmed when I realized, after he took my order, that he never asked me how I wanted my steak done. I figured I would wait and see what would happen...strange. My first course was a duck and andouille gumbo. I make gumbo myself and a good one at that. But this was glorious...a dark medium roux with no hint of bitterness or burning. The richness of flavors was superb, without being overpowering...I could still taste the duck. And the andouille is amongst the best I ever tasted Then came my steak... cooked medium and not med rare like I prefer. I mentioned the lack of communication to my waiter and he offered to get me a new steak. My steak looked perfect and was cooked like it looked. Besides they could not be making money on me tonight, so how could I return it? I had realized this might be a problem earlier and had done nothing about it. I could have prevented it! Anyway this steak was better than the steak I had had in the two best steakhouses in BR. One had been way overcooked and opted to eat something else. And the other was still grazing ( which I can live with). While this steak was cooked at the fringe of my tolerance for doneness (slight pink center) , it still burst with juicyness. It was delivered atop a luscious serving of creamy mashed potatoes that took mashed potatoes to a whole new level. I am not a fan of them. But i mopped up every last bit of these along with that steak juice with my bread....mmmmm. The entire steak was crispy without charring with a perfect amount of salt and a hint of pepper. It had just enough little bits of juicy fat for flavor. And as big as it was, I ate the whole thing. No doggy bag here...it was too good to not eat it all on the spot. To top dinner off, I had the creme brulee. And although it was not the best I ever had, it was beautiful and delicious. I still cleaned my cup in spite of being exceedingly satisfied by now. My waiter was always there. With water and bread when I needed it and occasional checks on my status without being intrusive. He was always in a hurry and once or twice a bit short with me but not rude. To his defense...I do tend to ramble which you might have surmised by now. I still was quite happy with him. He was a hard worker and attentive and friendly. I might even ask for him again when I return. More restaurants should have specials like these. They bring in people on your slow night or in slow season. It lets people enjoy a fine meal when they cannot otherwise afford it. Some of us that fit in this category will think of this restaurant when they get married or on theirs birthdays or anniversary. I for one, am glad I got to eat here. The prices are fair but for most of us, it still requires a bit of sacrifice monetarily speaking. Please remember you are paying about half of what these dishes would cost otherwise...anywhere...without the special. I suggest you tip generously as your waiter still has to work just as hard as if you had paid full price.

Juban's is an expensive restaurant with great food in a town full of college students. So, it ends up being a special occasion place where well heeled patrons meet their college student children, grandchildren, etc. The fact that it's been there "forever" ages the crowd, too. Juban's somehow manages to transform its strip shopping center location into charming dining rooms with big elegant windows, high ceilings, and grace. As soon as you walk down the landscaped, "garden path" to the entrance and into a warm, cozy foyer, you know you've left the strip shopping center behind. We were "meeting the girlfriend" for the first time, so Juban's fit the bill. She ordered a fish dish, immediately earning respect from us. Anybody can heat up a good steak, but it takes a talented chef to get the most from fish. And, Juban's succeeds - consistently. We did the customary Louisiana fish swapping. I had (and shared) my lemon fish with my son, wife and my son's girlfriend. From them, I got bites of drum, redfish and trout. It was all good. I enjoyed my own lemon fish the most, because it had no "goop" on it. It sang a cappella, grilled to perfection with perfectly seasoned spices that let the freshness of the fish swim free. Was it fast? No! Was it good? Yes! Did it give us a great setting for meeting the girlfriend? Perfect. A good meal, two bottles of wine, and service at a "stately" pace from an "old friend" gave us a setting conducive to easy conversation. Both Juban's and the girlfriend get five stars!

This was my second and last trip to Juban's. I went for brunch and was seated in the dining room immediately. And that is where I sat for close to 20 minutes without so much as a server coming by to take a drink order. They were all too busy standing at the bar talking. If you consider yourself a "fine dining establishment," your service should match your prices. One of the few times I've walked out of a restaurant.

This is some righteous Louisiana food. Had the ribeye, which was juicy & flavorful without need for additional condiments - a great steak stands alone. Also had the petit adrian, which had a nice flaky soft texture and was delicious. Everyone else at the meeting loved their food too. The location is an endcap in a strip mall - may not look like much from the outside - but it's spacious inside. Service was friendly - highly recommend for private functions.

This restaurant is classy! The service was excellent. We had an enjoyable dining experience there. I chose the Hallelujah Crab dish. I'm glad I did; it was delicious ! Their Duck-Chicken-Andouille Gumbo is not the best. The roux was too dark; therefore, the gumbo had a bit of bitter taste. For dessert we had Bread Pudding with rum sauce, which was good, but not extraordinary. For a romantic evening, Juban Restaurant has a nice appeal. Service, as I mentioned, was great! We did not have any alcoholic drink, I won't comment on those beyond that obviously the restaurant has a great selection of beverages. Over all, I believe this restaurant is rather over-priced. We had better tasting food at other places.

Juban's surprised me. And mostly what I want to say here is that the Hallelujah crab is entirely worth it. Presuming that my one experience with it is a standard experience, you're in for a treat. In general, I'd recommend everything we tried, from the Seafood Napoleon or the Crab Cakes to the Shrimp Aubergine (I remember that hot, flash-eggplant melting in my mouth like it was yesterday!) or the Stuffed Flounder. I was hoping for some pecan pie but apparently that was discontinued at least a year ago, so we settled for some bread pudding ... but it certainly didn't feel like settling. Another highlight for me was the honey bourbon; I'm all for trying new things, but when it came to Round Two, I struggled not to order a second glass of the same! I chose another mixed cocktail -- can't remember it's name, but pretty sure it was cucumber and gin or some such -- and definitely wished I'd stuck with the bourbon. Try not to eat too many of those sweet potato chips they place on your table gratis to start, because there is good food to come!

Being from Thibodaux and missing my home state of Louisiana and returning back to the south to see my daughter's graduation from LSU, I was eager to have some good cajun food. We gathered, 9 of us, at the table next to the bar and settled in for a night that was to be remembered, well somewhat. After we expressed how proud we were of her finishing her masters degree, we were ready for some drink and fine food. Juban's was packed with graduates and their families and had a special menu for the evening. I wish I would have kept the menu but after the evening, like most in South Louisiana, events of the night seem to be a blur and I cant remember the name of my dish. It was a redfish dish with pecans, grapes and asparagus with carrots. It was Devine. Our waiter was spot on and as attentive as could be without seeming over bearing. His knowledge of the menu was never impecable. I do remember him describing all of the dishes in great detail. Selling them as he should. I wanted to try them all but settled on the redfish dish that the names eludes me. When plates return from my dining room, I have my staff give me feedback on what was left on the plates. This helps he to evaluate certain portions fo the meal. As we ate and drank and talked about the accomplishments of this awesome student, who was ready to tackle the world, I noticed that all of the plates were being cleaned. A good sign from someone who watches plates as they return. I did try the gumbo that my wife ordered and it's dark color let me know that this roux was tended to for some time and the taste certainly shown through. A classic Louisiana gumbo that hit every note. After the meal we ordered shots, a tradition it seems, and then dessert. Between the PB&J shots and desserts, I was ready to return back to the hotel. Juban's is Southern hospitality at it's finest with excellent food as it's catalyst. If you are in the Baton Rouge area, then this is a must. Looking forward to my return.

Unbelievable lunch! Had the local mirliton - a scooped out chayote stuffed with seafood resting on beurre blanc... the 3 course lunch included salad, entree and dessert - bread pudding or fruit. I ordered fruit, hubby ordered bread pudding... our buddy ordered fruit... and regretted staring at the bread pudding and ORDERED ONE!!! OH MY! Impeccable service, outstanding food... Im still on a butter high!

I usually don't take the time to write reviews, but with my experience today, I thought I would take a moment to share my experience. Short version: Awesome food, great service, 1.5 hours to receive our food. Bill was overcharged but compensated for mistakes made. For more detailed, please read below: My wife and I wanted to try a new place for brunch, and decided on Juban's. We have never been here; however, heard it was a "must" for their brunch. Upon arriving, we noticed that the restaurant is white linen and decorated very nice. Gwen and I also noticed that people were dressed from suits, slacks, dresses all the way down to jeans and a shirt. This makes the customers feel comfortable, while offering an upscale atmosphere. The meals that we ordered were worth discussing how wonderful it was for the next hour. There aren't too many meals that you will talk about in such great detail and relive the experience. The major complaint that we have is that it took over an hour and a half to receive our entrees and they ran out of their homemade biscuits. Upon receiving our bill, we noticed that we were overcharged for both meals. The saving grace, and the reason I will return in the future, is that the manager mentioned that "Customers must be happy with their experience at Juban's" and he wanted to compensate our meal. We will return to this restaurant and appreciate the wonderful service that we received.

Last weekend cousins from out-of-state visited and a last-minute change of plans had us at Juban's for Sunday lunch / brunch. The place did live up to its sterling reputation. All dishes were superb, prices right, service pretty good. I was pleased; and, I'm not easily pleased. My Son, who lives nearby and does a lot of business entertainment eating-out, says that Juban's is always good. Rick

Baton Rouge's 2nd Best Restaurant in my opinion. I have dined here on countless occasions and have never had a bad experience. Consistancy is the M.O. here. A nice place for a date night, or just a quiet meal. The atmosphere is lovely (maybe a little dated, but quite nice), the service is always excellent, the cocktails are fantastic, and the food is very good. You can't go wrong dining at Juban's. The restaurant reminds me of classic New Orleans in both the look and the menu. I have had countless different dishes and have ALWAYS enjoyed my meals. I can't say anything negative whatsoever about Juban's, but at the end of the day it fails to wow me. Consistantly very good experiences, but never the over the top experience, or the bite of food that makes me want to reach fo the 5th star. Always a nice experience and with a little work could be a place that would make me say - WOW.

Great seafood, Great Service, and Great Drinks. Try the Adrian dish it's to die for. We had David, as our waiter and he shared with us the greatest recipe for a cheese cake. The place Isn't cheap but for this kind of service, and food you don't expect it to be. We had some of the most amazing food, and a wonderful time. Thank you David, for entertaining us and sharing your family recipe.

Came to town just for the day and was pleasantly surprised at the fantastic Sunday brunch at Juban's. Everything was spot on: the space was comfortable and very old school, the coffee was dark and strong, the service was refined and attentive, the biscuits and complimentary sweet potato chips were awesome, and the mimosas were bottomless. I had the coffee and some of the best shrimp and grits I've had in a long time. The shrimp were perfect and perfectly complemented by garlic cheese grits (done right for a change!) and a cream sauce I wanted to drink from the bowl... And did. (Note, according to the waiter this dish is only available at brunch!) My girlfriend had mimosas and the sweet potato creeps filled with duck confit which were a decadent sweet and savory mix she swore she would recreate at home. We were both extremely happy with our choices. So if you're looking for an awesome brunch, throw on a tie (not required but you'll fit in), wear some seersucker (again not required but it'll feel right), and head over to Juban's.

Juban's was nice! They sat our party of 11 in a private room with it's own temperature control, which was nice since it was unusually chilly outside. Our waiter, Josh, was great! You could tell that he worked hard to keep everyone happy and he took pride in his job! The appetizers were AMAZING! I had the Juban's steak and asparagus with lump crab meat on top. I asked for my steak to be cooked medium well and it was more on the well side, unfortunately, it didn't really have any flavor either. I would recommend the pecan pie for dessert and definitely share with someone, it was huge but oh so delicious!

Delicious!!! We were with a group, so we had limited entree options, but no one could complain about any of the options. The fish, the steak, the chicken.... All amazing! Great friends and great service!!!
Had a wonderful meal here while visiting LSU. The French martini was terrific and the gumbo is to die for. The fish was fresh and flavorful. The green pasta with the oysters was not so popular. Service was outstanding. Would definitely return.

WONDERFUL Cajun/Creole food!!!! This is a fancy, expensive white tablecloth kinda place in a ratber unimpressive, nonluxurious looking (from outside) location - but great! Top notch Louisiana eating. seafood is a good option. staff is very professional, waiter was very patient with questions and knowledgeable about the menu and wines and such.. top notch service, great desserts. I think the only reason I am not giving 5 stars is I wasn't paying for the meal as it was on business, so since I did not experience the pain of paying the rather large bill, I can't fully evaluate the gastronomical pleasure to financial impact ratio of the meal.

Who knew such fine cuisine could be found in BR? Located in the corner of a a run-down strip mall, I was surprised to find the inside of this place to be so fancy! Food was fantastic!! We noticed a lot of people ordered the soft shell crab that's on the menu but we opted for the rabbit and special of the day. The rabbit dish was amazing!! If you're curious what rabbit taste like, seriously, it takes just like chicken (no kidding). Of the desserts, we agreed that the pecan pie was the best of the two. There's no comparison really. The bread pudding was rather dense, cake-like. So if you like your bread pudding that way, this is your dessert. The pecan pie just "melted in your mouth" good! Service was top-notch, very courteous and attentive. Our entrees did take some time to come out but it was a Saturday night (and apparently prom night, we were told later) and they were busy. Overall, I was very pleased in discovering this restaurant!

I planned a rehearsal dinner at Juban's Restaurant and was absolutely delighted with all aspects. Working with Juban's event planner Meghann was perfect. She is professional, extremely helpful and competent. Every detail that was discussed was followed through and carried out 100%. I live on the West Coast so I relied on Meghann for everything. I just can't compliment her or Juban's enough. Juban's menu is extensive and the food is some of the finest in Louisiana. The staff is courteous and efficient. The facility and ambiance is over the top. Pricing is very reasonable. Don't hesitate to use Juban's for a special event or dinner for two. Really makes me miss Baton Rouge!

Sunday brunch is where it's at! Drink list is light & refreshing. Salads are wonderful & perfect shared as an appetizer. I had the breakfast crepes last time... Very creamy. Definitely sit in the atrium. It's beautiful with the light streaming in.

2 bird , Monday 3 course prime rib potatoes omg omg, bread pudding My husband and I stopped in for our anniversary dinner, What luck! Who would have thought in an unassuming strip mall would be this amazing little stop. Great staff, amazing food. Mondays happen to be Prime Rib on the 3 course meal, what luck my husband favorite. It was like butter and served on a bed of the mist amazing mashed potatoes and asparagus. I had the 2 birds plate. A duck breast covered in a spicy jelly sauce on one side and on the other a quail stuffed with pumpkin and crawfish with brown gravy. WOW To finish off the night we indulged in a champagne toast over a delightful bread puddling. This is not to be missed.

Longtime special occasion Louisiana food in an elegant setting. In my book this place is probably just a three, as it really hasn't evolved over the decades and is a bit boring for my interests. But it's an institution, and a place where i celebrated many a special occasion. So it's hard not to give it four stars. It is very good food, very good service. Just not that unusual. Which sometimes is just what we need.

A mediocre luncheon at Juban's? I can't believe I'm writing this. My favorite restaurant in town hopefully was having an off day. I was invited for lunch recently and we sat at what I describe as my favorite table on in the patio bar, tucked in a corner. Our server was friendly if not a bit juvenile. I ordered the oysters carousel, always a great way to start a meal, followed by a lunch special of the day, their "flash fried softshell crab" topped with crawfish if I recall. What a disappointment from start to finish. The oysters were tiny and shriveled and absolutely swamped in their various sauces. If the oysters had any flavor, they were overwhelmed by the gloppy sauces in which they were served. The crab was modest in size and it too lacked flavor. I ordered it because I usually try a chef's special for the sake of variety. But on this day I definitely wish I would have stuck with one of the reliable lunch dishes. Dessert of creme brulee was sweet and yummy and the topping reminded me of a toasted marshmallow, served along with coffee which I always find very good at Juban's. So the entire meal wasn't a loss. But, I can go down Perkins road not too far to Louisiana Lagniappe, not to mention Acme Oyster House, for meals that, on the whole, exceed my recent experience at Juban's. Oh please let this be a one time experience soon to be redeemed!

I just moved to Baton Rouge and Juban's came highly recommended from the locals. Overall, the food was amazing! The wine list is good and the bar knows how to make some good drinks. (I had the best mojito there.) The service was also good, meaning we were properly greeted, server was knowledgable, and service was fast. That being said, we were a part of a small group so we had a table for 12 in a private dinning room reserved. The reservation was for 7:30 so that's what time we showed up. Apparently someone had taken the reservation for 7:00 and needles to say the server was obviously angry that we were "late". Also had about 9 people instead of 12, which also upset the server. He even made a few snotty remarks about how he thought more people were going to show up. I have been a server before and understand how dissapointing is can be when you are expecting gratuity from a large party and do not get it, but that is a part of the business and you would expect a high class place like Juban's to teach their servers how to handle these types of situations with class. I gave 4 stars because we still had prompt service, it was just with an attitude and the food was really good. Very dressy atmosphere.

I spent some time last year in baton rouge, i have to say i was very impressed with the Louisiana cuisine in general and specially with Juban's, i took my boyfriend there one time he came to visit and we were so amazed with their food, i have never had better fish anywhere else, everything was so tasty and elegant, it is a fancy place but we enjoy that, if i ever go back to BR i will sure be stopping at this restaurant.

We ordered a fancy "praying crab" dish everyone was raving about and it was absolutely horrible...horrible! Nothing is worse than expensive bad food.

Fantastically delicious shrimp po'boy. Jumbo shrimp perfectly fried. The gumbo is also fantastic. Only draw back is just a little expensive for lunch. Otherwise I highly recommend this place.

Romantic restaurant tucked away in an overlooked shopping center. The interior is gorgeous. Food is excellent! I must try their brunch . Outdoor seating area is also pleasant. Fine service.

I attended a rehearsal dinner here and have to say it was pretty nice. The staff was nice, the food was great, and the chef gave us a tutorial on making bananas foster before doing so. They were fantastic. I'd eat there again any time.

I attended a rehearsal dinner here and have to say it was pretty nice. The staff was nice, the food was great, and the chef gave us a tutorial on making bananas foster before doing so. They were fantastic. I'd eat there again any time.

This is a wonderful place... Little noisier than I remember from 20 years ago'. We had beef bourguignon..sooo tender! Bread pudding melts in the mouth! Staff very friendly! Worth coming back to!!

(4)Charis S.
GREAT place to have any event, HUGE banquet room! They have a Greek salad and some sort of sautéed cabbage with taso ham that is TO DIE FOR! The location is kind go ducked off, but it's a nice place, very intimate, dim lighting and a very romantic feel to it.

(5)Jill J.

(5)Susan C.
(3)Adam S.
(5)Pat W.

(2)Jona G.

(5)John C.
(5)Lenny J.
(4)DeeShae W.
(4)Zelda C.
(2)Morgan E.
The food was okay but for the price you pay here my husband thought his could have had a little more flavor. I thought mine was great. I had the steak frites. Steak was cooked perfectly and my side of sautéed garlic spinach was very tasty. I really enjoyed the hand cut fries and the serving size of everything was great. He had the filet which I tasted and I would agree with him that his was rather flavorless. Like I said it was okay but I doubt we will return.
(3)Richard W.
Top restaurant in Baton Rouge. Excellent Creole food, great service, atmosphere, reasonable prices. Very consistent.
(5)Susan H.

(4)Arlene G.
We ordered a fancy "praying crab" dish everyone was raving about and it was absolutely horrible...horrible! Nothing is worse than expensive bad food.
(2)Hugh F.
Fantastically delicious shrimp po'boy. Jumbo shrimp perfectly fried. The gumbo is also fantastic. Only draw back is just a little expensive for lunch. Otherwise I highly recommend this place.
(4)Maria Y.

Romantic restaurant tucked away in an overlooked shopping center. The interior is gorgeous. Food is excellent! I must try their brunch . Outdoor seating area is also pleasant. Fine service.

This is a wonderful place... Little noisier than I remember from 20 years ago'. We had beef bourguignon..sooo tender! Bread pudding melts in the mouth! Staff very friendly! Worth coming back to!!

(1)Philip L.

(3)Taryn L.

Delicious, unique menu!!!! I can't wait to come back and try more.

(5)Melissa L.
(4)Stephanie W.
Delicious!!! We were with a group, so we had limited entree options, but no one could complain about any of the options. The fish, the steak, the chicken.... All amazing! Great friends and great service!!!
(5)Reg Z.
Really great food, definitely my top 3 of places I've ate in Baton Rouge. Oysters and crab mushroom apps were fantastic. The fish special (grilled red snapper with lump crab) was really light and tasty. Étouffée is the "tomato" version (I am more brown fan), but really good with the fish. Bar is cool, and the place in general is white table cloth. Servers are very attentive.
(4)Graham H.
Had a wonderful meal here while visiting LSU. The French martini was terrific and the gumbo is to die for. The fish was fresh and flavorful. The green pasta with the oysters was not so popular. Service was outstanding. Would definitely return.
(5)Mark N.
(4)Julia S.

Great food with an amazing atmosphere! Be sure to save room for dessert!

We ordered a fancy "praying crab" dish everyone was raving about and it was absolutely horrible...horrible! Nothing is worse than expensive bad food.

Maxim's rated this place with the best gumbo in '09? Ummm.. I guess that really depends on your taste.

Fantastically delicious shrimp po'boy. Jumbo shrimp perfectly fried. The gumbo is also fantastic. Only draw back is just a little expensive for lunch. Otherwise I highly recommend this place.

Romantic restaurant tucked away in an overlooked shopping center. The interior is gorgeous. Food is excellent! I must try their brunch . Outdoor seating area is also pleasant. Fine service.

(3)Blake D.

(1)Philip L.

(3)Taryn L.

Delicious, unique menu!!!! I can't wait to come back and try more.

(5)Melissa L.
(5)Mark N.
(4)Julia S.
(4)Karen W.
(5)Leilane V.
Great atmosphere and fantastic service! Would not have found it without yelp.
(4)Whitney G.
Great food with an amazing atmosphere! Be sure to save room for dessert!
(5)Courtney C.

(5)Lisa J.
(4)Richard W.
Top restaurant in Baton Rouge. Excellent Creole food, great service, atmosphere, reasonable prices. Very consistent.
(5)Susan H.
(1)Bryan R.
I attended a rehearsal dinner here and have to say it was pretty nice. The staff was nice, the food was great, and the chef gave us a tutorial on making bananas foster before doing so. They were fantastic. I'd eat there again any time.
(3)Aimee F.
(4)Don A.

Maxim rates their gumbo #1in US. I concur. Service was gr8 as well. They got their act together.

Unbelievable. Possibly the best meal of my life. The Gumbo is fabulous, and the Two Birds entree was spot-on. My only disappointment was that Pecan Pie was not available. (apparently they only get a limited amount per week.). This place is worth every penny.

I attended a rehearsal dinner here and have to say it was pretty nice. The staff was nice, the food was great, and the chef gave us a tutorial on making bananas foster before doing so. They were fantastic. I'd eat there again any time.
